Carnival Corp.’s (CCL) shares climbed 21% after Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund, the Public Investment Fund (PIF), on Monday disclosed an 8.2% stake in coronavirus-hit Carnival Corp.

 

Last week, Carnival said it was raising $6.25 billion in debt and equity, while also suspending its dividend payments, in an effort to cope with (~에 대처하기 위한 일환으로) the financial crisis induced by the coronavirus impact.

 

Verizon Communications paid out more than half (52%) of its earnings last year, which is a regular payout ratio for most companies. That said, even highly profitable companies sometimes might not generate enough cash to pay the dividend, which is why we should always check if the dividend is covered by cash flow.

CCL has plummeted (곤두박질 치다) over 76% year-to-date, while the S&P 500 is down about 20% in comparison.

 

While HBO Max is likely to still debut on time, there was hope that AT&T could use the service to entice (유도하다) its wireless and broadband subscribers to pay up for premium plans by offering Max as an added perk. (추가 이득)

 

AT&T shares dropped 25% in the first quarter, compared with a 20% decline for the S&P 500 SPX, +1.44% in that span. 

 

Of the 29 analysts tracked by FactSet who cover the stock, nine rate the stock a buy, 19 rate it a hold, and one rates it a sell, with an average price target of $36.53 as of April 9.

 

Chip stocks have risen lately amid signs of improving demand and a forecast market recovery in 2020. However, business disruptions and a possible recession from the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic are likely to dampen any recovery. (기세를 꺾다) 

 

As equities at least temporarily take a breather from a selloff earlier this month, investors turned their attention to oil, which recovered some losses Tuesday after a precipitous decline during the prior session

 

The Federal Reserve and Congress have been quick to unlock trillions of dollars of stimulus to bolster the economy as it awaits a favorable turn in the coronavirus crisis.
